Melinda’s holding something back I don’t know what it is but she bites on her lips to hold it in, what could it be. It doesn’t matter anymore because everybody hates her after the party. She would be better if she moved away she has no friends and isn’t getting any soon. This might be something that is going on in Melinda’s old best friend’s head. People don’t always think of reasons why somebody might do something or even ask if they were right about what they thought; might be the lesson that Laurie Halse Anderson was trying to get across in the book speak.
In the start of the book you get the sense that everybody thinks she called the cops on the party because they were drinking but that was not the case on page164 you find out what really happened at the party there is only one person that knows besides Melinda. Another time that it happened was on page 172 Hairwoman got a buzz cut and nobody asked why she did but instead they started to come up with new ideas that might explain why she did it.Those two examples clearly show what Laurie Halse Anderson was trying to get across.
To get a point across in a book can be very hard but Laurie Halse Anderson got her point across and it was not hidden in the book like other books do so often. Not only getting the point across the book even keeps you reading it. Speak can relate to high schoolers that don’t have any friends and are on there own.
