Flaws of Equality in “Harrison Bergeron”
Picture a dull world without color, Imagination, or thoughts, where everybody is the same and nobody stands out. Equality is where everybody is treated the same and nobody needs to compete against each other. Kurt Vonnegut Jr. shows how equality could negatively affect people in the story “Harrison Bergeron.”
On page 243 it states, “The Year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal.” Everybody is the same so there is no need to compete. However, this version of equality is a nightmare. This is a nightmare because all dreams are cut short. Without imagination there would be nothing new and life would be short bursts of thoughts that are never finished. Any attempt to escape this world would be put to a halt as people could only think of the obvious.
To keep everyone equal the government used handicaps. One of the ways in this book that keeps people equal is the ear pieces that everyone must where if their brain is above average. This ear piece wrings every 20 seconds, the first hint that proves it is when George hears a load obnoxious sound in his ear that scattered all his thoughts on page 243. Besides the ear pieces people wore metal so that they weren’t as fast or strong as other people, this was shown on page 245 when the story states “Scrap metal was hung all over him”. In the case of Harrison the handicapper general made him wear glasses that made it hard to see and gave him headaches as stated on page 245. In the attempt to break out and give color the handicapper general killed Harrison and his love on page 247.
The grey of Harrison’s world covered the one chance of color, imagination, and feelings. The world proceeds to stay lifeless but the little bit of color still flutters in the minds of all the handicapped. This is the dull end of time that is created by equality in the story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

The dream of a lifetime
The darkness has emerged in and all that is heard is the subtle sound of the whistling wind rolling down the fog stricken alleyway. James is all alone now and in shock after his parents were violently murdered while he was watching helplessly from the old wore down closet in the corner of the dark musty room. He was filled with fear after his parents killer glared towards the motionless closet. He turns the corner while walking with fear and he sees a policeman on patrol, he scurries up to the policeman. As he turns James realizes that he is staring in to the grim filled eyes of his parents killer once again. To scared to move the blood splattered policeman grabs James and shoves him in the dirty old trunk which smells of vomit and blood he turns his head to find the severed body of the real police officer. The car comes to a stop with James filled with fear he lies there motionless in the back of the car. James turns and the rugged man shoves something down his throat everything is dark once again as he drifts off. Then bloody rugged man proceeds to slowly cut James as painfully as he can till, eventually James slams his chest into the knife to kill himself. The dull blunt blade smashes through his brittle bones right through his heart as he slowly falls to nonexistence.
PS3
You have finally saved enough money to buy the game console that you have been looking for but between your friends. Debating between which one and you can’t tell which is better because all your friends just want you to buy the one that they have so you can play them online. After mowing lawns every day in the summer you don’t want to make a mistake on this.
You have narrowed it down to two game systems X-Box 360 or PS3 when comparing the PS3 can hold 6 times the amount of information that X-Box 360 can and can play blue-ray DVDs. Most people like the better quality picture which X-Box 360 has but now you can buy HD cables that you plug into the TV to make the picture much better.
If you like customization then the PS3 would be a prime console because you can buy different colored controllers which is an upgrade from the original black controllers. X-Box 360 does have the option to have a white or black console if that is something that you want.
PS3 and X-Box 360 are the same cost unless you buy the cheap version of X-Box 360 which doesn’t hold much memory. The PS3 is a better deal because the memory space is larger and they still cost the same. Just looking at the cost of the console might not be the best decision because for PS3 the online gaming is free but on X-Box 360 it is a monthly fee to play online.
The speed difference between PS3 and X-Box 360 is close but PS3 is faster because X-Box 360 put a limiter that makes it run the same speed as their old X-Box. The video runs faster on PS3 most of the time but the X-Box 360 Has an extra help area that can make the video faster on X-Box 360 sometimes. The overall speed of the system is faster on PS3 than on X-Box 360. Even though X-Box 360 could have faster video doesn’t mean that the system runs faster. People on PS3 can upgrade their storage to run faster and hold more while people on X-Box 360 can’t.
When it comes to accessories both systems have basically the same stuff besides the difference between the Move and Kinect. The Playstation Move is not quite as good as the Kinect but still better than the Wii. With Playstation Move you have to hold on to the controller and with Kinect it watches your body movement (Before the Kinect PS2 had Eye Toy which is the same as the Kinect But Kinect has better games).
After spending all summer cutting lawns you should make the right choice. Between the PS3 and X-Box 360 the better deal is the PS3 it may cost more to buy but it is better for the long run. Don’t waste your money on a X-Box 360 buy the best game console you can PS3.
With leadership comes responsibility
A leader must have responsibility without it they would not last long as a leader or be considered a good leader. One fine example of poor leadership is the democratic senators in Wisconsin, this proves to be true because when things happened that they didn't like they ran away like little babies and won't do their job. This was struck by the sudden change in power in the state of Wisconsin and they are staying out of the state to stop a new bill that would force the union workers and state workers to give up their collective bargaining and pay for part of their healthcare. In times where we weren’t short in money it would be just fine but now we are in debt and now people need to do their share to help out the state. People in the private sector already needs to pay for their healthcare and the state workers wouldn't even need to pay for half of the national average. On the other hand a good example would be the republicans because in times where they didn't like a bill they stayed and did the job that the public asked them to do. One prime example of the republicans staying and doing their job when they didn’t want to was when Obama passed the healthcare bill that will put our country in debt for years to come but they stayed and did the job that they were supposed to do.
"To build a Fire" by Jack London essay
Out in the middle of the arctic with your trustworthy companion, in a day that lacks light you walk the frozen path to camp. As you struggle to spit your dip it freezes on your chin creating a amber colored beard. As the temperature drops 75 below zero you walk with no imagination. This is the setting in the short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London . This story proves to be a tragedy when one looks at the plot.
The first line of the story states that the "Day has broken cold and gray, exceeding cold and gray". This gives the sense of a tragedy. The man's conflict is that he must survive in negative 75 degrees without the light to guide him. Another symbol is the man's fire which is a source of life, When the fire provided life for the man it was his rise to power. The tragic flaw in the man was that he had no imagination which was stated on page 133 when it said "he was without imagination", so he proceeded to place his fire under a tree. This flaw would bring the tragic fall which is, the fire that was brought life to the man quickly died as nature takes its toil on the man as the snow from the tree above drained the life from the fire. Due to the lifeless fire the man's life was drained from him as well, which is the death symbolism.
Without life the man sits and finally withers away to nothing; now all alone he freezes in the arctic. Looking at the symbols, one can see that this story is a tragedy. From the first line of the story one could predict that the guy won't live through the day that is coming; therefore, it's no surprise that hes quickly freezes to the point where his entire body crystallizes.
